French Harbour Community
French Harbour is Roatán’s third-largest community, with approximately 3,000 fixed inhabitants and a high floating population. It is one of Roatan’s most active fishing communities as well with many of Roatan’s commercial vessels docking in and around the waters of French Harbour.
There are several fine resorts, hotels, gas stations, supermarkets, villas, and restaurants in and around French Harbour, which are frequented by tourists and residents year-round. A little known fact is that there are more banks in French Harbour than in Coxen Hole. The only Mall on Roatan is located in French Harbour, and that alone invites residents from all across the Bay Islands. The Mega Plaza Mall enjoys some of Roatan’s most visited restaurants, coffee shops, barbershops, beauty salons, clothing stores, appliances, and electronics stores, and the Mall is home to Roatan’s private hospital, CEMESA.
It is easier to get to know the island by land, there are several rental car agencies around the island and close to the French Harbour, but there are public and private taxis and buses as well. However, most of the hotels will arrange roundtrip transportation for you before your arrival. We should mention that Honduras’ currency is the Lempira, but most establishments accept US currency, including transport drivers.
